Fabulous Friday and dreamin’ of a lazy weekend

happy fridayHere is wishing everyone a fabulously, graceful beautiful Friday!

We have finally made it to the end of the week and I just pray that life decides to slow down, breathe, and Hope that Murphy thing eases up a bit!

After 12 days of being “on” this fabulously graceless lady is going to be “off”… and Murphy started it for me so I am just taking a hint!

deserve a medal friday

They boy and I will just chill for a few days.

Sleep, oh blessed sleep, I hope to get much this weekend! I hope to enjoy the hopeful warmer, sunny weather and also sleep! HA!

look at sky how amazing

At least the boy is at the age where he is content watching movies being lazy if he happens to get up before 9! Hey, I’m honest! I make sure he is taken care of but oh I love/need/gotta have some sleep!

So I’m making it through this day with thoughts of family, love, joy, hope and sleep! Because I have hope and I am fabulous! *these are the delusions I tell myself! Sometimes I even believe me!

Fun, Fabulous and Finally Friday!

Halleluiah it’s Finally Fabulous Friday!

finally friday

It’s not that I don’t have work to do but it’s the hope that I will be “done” when this workday is over. As in, off the clock kind of done. I do love my job but I feel like I have been “on” for two weeks and I guess technically I have. The type of work I do, I get too into it and really need to step away sometimes. It doesn’t mean I won’t still worry, but it means I am not the one who is responsible for our clients and I am not the one on call after 5:00! Carrying the weight of being responsible for someone else’s welfare is stressful.

I can promise you I am not in it for the money because this calling I have to take care of others does not pay as much as my project management job in telecom that I had previously. I love what I do now and before I didn’t love what I did but I needed the paycheck.

When I got laid off due to industry wide layoffs in the fall of 2014, I was a little freaked about not getting a regular paycheck, not counting unemployment for a few months, but I was actually relieved. The stress and the plain meanness of some people in the industry had done me in after only 3.5 years.

It is sad that the industry of taking care of others pays so little. Our daycare workers, teachers and caregivers get paid the lowest amounts yet they are the ones we entrust the very lives of our loved ones with. I know in caregiving in general, even in private pay, the average person can only allot so much for care.

I have families that need someone 24/7 but can only afford 8-10 hours a day. I have people who have no one and just need someone to take them to an medical appointment because you can’t drive yourself if you have anesthesia. I have people who can no longer drive and need someone to take them places. I have others who just need companionship for their loved ones. I have others that should be under medical care but can’t, or won’t, go the extra mile so they get someone to come in and “sit” with their loved one to “help out”.

4 types of people

I work with people who have loved ones who need the care, but want to tell me how it needs to be done and they don’t listen to the person receiving the care of how they want it done. Awkward!

I have employees who don’t show, walk off or quit calling in. I wonder if they would do it if the roles were reversed. I wonder how they made it as long in the industry as they have. I wonder why they ask for work only to turn it down or not show. I question, if I hired them, why I didn’t pick up on those flaws.

One of the people I work with, after talking to me and hearing me answer several other calls and taking care of caregivers and client needs, said, “Well I guess that’s why they pay you the big bucks.” I calmly looked at her and said, “We don’t discuss pay with each other but I can guarantee I am not in this for the money, therefore I am not making the big bucks.” She thought I was offended but I was amused.

Anytime you say the word “manager” in your title it is automatically assumed that you make a lot of money. I am not sure why this is. I do know several management jobs that don’t pay squat and others that pay mega bucks. I am closer to the squat side that the mega side and I am truly okay with that because in my soul I am at peace with what I do every day.

Yes, I love my job but today, I am thankful it is Friday!

never give up

It is a fantastically, fabulous, rainy Friday but we made it!

And all because I always Keep Hope Alive!

Happy Birthday Elvis and have a fabulous Friday!

amazing friday

We have made it! The first Friday of the 2016 work week is officially here! If you are reading this that means you made it and you are alive!

Speaking of alive, Happy Birthday Elvis!

In case you have no clue, today would have been Elvis’ 81st birthday. Being from the south, Elvis is a big deal and I know many people who will be making their yearly pilgrimage to Graceland to celebrate The King’s Birthday. To those folks, I wish you safe travels and one a heck of a party.

If you have never been to Graceland, I suggest you take the time out to go. It is an experience! It’s strange and a bit weird to me; however I thoroughly enjoyed my adventures there. It was one of those, “Well we’ve never been why not go?” kind of trips and it turned out to be a fun experience. Seeing how well preserved everything is and how much went into making Graceland a true iconic landmark makes the trip worthwhile. I mean the man was creative, I will give him that! You can see the extravagance lavished on his home and grounds. Of course there are areas that are closed to the public and of course I wanted to go into them. Of course access was denied. Party poopers! But I do recommend a trip to Memphis to visit Graceland and heck, a trip down Beale Street for some fabulous food and spirits. I mean if you’re there, why not?!

This feels like an adventure Friday no matter what responsibilities may be placed upon you. It’s like one of those going-into-the-unknown-but-I-know-it-will-be-fabulous Fridays! Yeah, that feeling!

The Keep Hope Alive No Matter What kind of day!

Not going to let stress or drama get me down, today is going to be a fantastic day! And after all, 81 years ago today a King was born.

Happy Birthday Elvis Presley!

*may I advise that you Google Elvis Presley videos, they are awesome! There were too many for me to choose just one from. He is the King of Rock & Roll!

Happy Friday from Squeaky McSqueak

fab friday

It seems the seasonal funk has stuck. This time it has decided to mess with my voice so I now sound like Squeaky McSqueaker.

It is much to the amusement of my family, especially the boy. He told me he wanted to be a doctor so he can make me feel better. So sweet. While I don’t feel to craptastic at this moment, it is pretty much just irritating. Squeaky voice and a bit of a cough. I am taking vitamins and drinking juices and whatever else I can find to try and make sure it doesn’t get worse. I have too much to do to be sick!

I can only imagine how work will be. Answering the phones at work should be a hoot. I am so sure when I say, “Good Morning, how can I help you?” people will wonder if they have called the Disney hotline.

So I am making this short and sweet and hoping to maybe get some rest to make this go away.

I hope you all have a fabulous Friday!

Try to stay healthy and take care of yourselves.

Keep Hope Alive!

Fabulous Friday readying for weekend fun

b chaos

Its Friday my fabulously graceless friends!

No matter what happens I am keeping hope alive today, because for me and mine it’s the day the boys “aunties” come from TN & GA, the birthday party weekend where we get to see friends and family, make new friends and have fun.

We have been celebrating all week more or less.

It has not been a constant barrage of gifts because this crazy mama isn’t made of money, and even if I was I wouldn’t give the boy gifts all the time as he gets plenty of “surprises” in the off season when it isn’t a birthday or holiday. He realizes excess now and will go, “Oh yeah, I forgot I have all those toys, I am going to play with my Ninja Turtles” or whatever it is he wants to play with. I encourage him to be creative and not watch as much TV, it’s pretty much a split on who wins that one depending on time frames and other random things but I know he has a wickedly funny imagination. He “pretends” a lot. A costume that is one thing can often become something else in his fascinating mind. He got a TMNT costume for his birthday, it a little big, but I have a feeling things are going to get a bit more ninja like for a while around the house.

Did I mention his “aunties” are coming?! This is one of those things I’m excited about because they are my “sisters” and when they boy was born, have been there every step of the way for both of us. Tonight the boy will get to enjoy his mommy and aunties laughing hysterically and having fun. Saturday will be the night we get to stay up late since his party is in the morning. What was I thinking again? Oh yeah get it done and hang out with friends and of course, football! Roll Tide!

So I am keeping this post short and sweet as this crazy mama needs here energy!

I hope that everyone has a fabulous Friday and an absolutely splendid weekend!

Friday’s Manual Labor – Part 2 of the Challenges of this Chic

So I have “formally” taken a position as house manager.

I really am Graceless so this has taken me to new bouts of laughter.

Recently the drain in one of the bathrooms was clogged.

I know hair and product build up can get in the pipes and I am a believer in the draino and even like the ones that have the danger signs on them… I figure my clog has no chance against it!

Boy can I be wrong!

This particular shower was redone about 2 years ago and has only been in regular use for the past year.

I found a similar product on the premises and tried it. Nothing. Still standing water.

So I headed to my local Lowe’s and began to look at all of the cool things I could use.

I tend to become a geek when I get in that store!

I was referred to a zip-it device and got the heavy duty Max Draino.

Oh.my.gosh.

The zip-it tool pulled up hair, gunk, etc. but I was challenged by the way the drain is. I think it is an elbow pipe but don’t have the drawing to make sure.

Here is a photo of what I pulled out of the drain – it was not an animal but reminds me of a rat!

 drain

After a most of the rest of the Draino bottle, it is no longer standing water but I can still see water when I remove the cover.

This means more intense cleaning.

I already fell on my face in the shower, hitting my head while trying to avoid the deadly Draino.

Then today I noticed a couple of bruises on my shins. Must have been the lip of the shower. Oh well, I never said I was Graceful!

Today I decided to not only dust again, but polish the furniture.

Remember doing that? I love to rub and clean the wood so it shines and the marks go away. Especially on antique furniture.

I was getting all the knick knacks no one wants to dust due to their fragileness.

Fortunately no one was around when I knocked one of the glass decanters over and I screamed because leave it up to me to be the one to break it! Luckily it wasn’t broken but again, my klutziness took over.

I moved to another room to polish and dust the pretty stuff.

I can’t catch a break!

I managed to hit my head no less than 4 times on the glass dining table with the beautiful wooden base!

Seriously I was thinking concussion but I was not giving up!

Next up is polishing the wooden floors.

I am the goof that will put on socks so that no footprints will be seen.

The same goof that runs down the hall and slides on said sock feet because it is fun.

I have taught the boy this game.

Sadly, like me, he tends to fall, crash into the wall and generally beat himself up.

Yet we do it again and again because let’s face it, sliding is fun!

Magic erasers work wonders on those marks left on the wall!

Let’s hope I don’t end up on vacation at the beach in a cast or leg brace.

Though I am so sure I would rock it!

I would let the boy put sticker on it and decorate it for me.

Yes I do enjoy doing manual labor, however at times it can get the best of me!

I am trying to finish up all the cleaning so I just have my writing and volunteer chores left.

Saving the best for last!

Here’s hoping to have a non-injury day!

At least I hope I won’t get injured just getting my hairs cut today. My treat for me plus with all my crazy hair, I am closing resembling a fuzzy Q-tip with the way it looks when it’s down!

Keeping hope alive for a fabulous Friday!

Stay Graceless my friends!
